Hike to cerro la cruz

Some weeks ago I got the opportunity to hike up the close-by Cerro la Cruz, a little mountain that was used to exploit the amazing alerce (Fitzroya cupressoides). Some of these trees have been dated to more that 4000 years age and have an extremely sturdy wood. Luckily the cutting of these ancients was forbidden in the 60′s. In the remote mountainous areas surrounding Huinay you can still find some of them.

From La Cruz you have a great view over to “our” Cerro Tambor.
